Our Gateway to Tomorrow
Town of Gravenhurst Official Plan Review
We’re creating a new Official Plan to guide how Gravenhurst grows and thrives over the next 30 years!
The Official Plan is our community’s roadmap to 2056 – creating a vision for where homes and businesses go, how we protect our lakes and natural spaces, the way our neighbourhoods are designed, and ways residents and visitors can move around town.
What This Plan Will Do
This forward-looking Plan will:
Encourage economic vitality and opportunity, particularly in the downtown and Wharf areas
Support smart, sustainable growth
Ensure environmental protection and climate resilience
Plan for infrastructure, parks, and public spaces
Advance transportation and connectivity
Promote community identity through building and neighbourhood design
Working Together
As part of the District of Muskoka, the Town’s Official Plan will align with District priorities, including protecting lake health, managing growth, and addressing natural hazards, while keeping the document clear and easy to use.
Built for the Community
Our Gateway to Tomorrow will be more than just a plan – it will create a shared vision for Gravenhurst. The Official Plan will be:
Easy to understand
Flexible, as needs and priorities change
Centered on the people who live, work, play, and do business in Gravenhurst
Together, we’re shaping a strong, resilient, and vibrant future.
Stay Involved
This is just the beginning! There will be lots of opportunities throughout the Official Plan Review project for residents to share ideas. Be sure to watch this page for announcements and information on upcoming events.

The Town of Gravenhurst is preparing a new Official Plan, which will guide how Gravenhurst will grow and change over the next 25 years. It will provide direction for housing, employment areas, rural and agricultural lands, transportation connections, parks, recreation and the character of different areas of the Town.
Some important policy areas, such as shoreline development and natural hazard mapping, are directed by the Province or the District of Muskoka, and must be reflected in the Town’s Official Plan. The questions in this survey are intended to obtain feedback on other topics for which the Town has more influence or flexibility to decide policy direction.
The survey will be open until Tuesday October 13, 2026.
